5 Top Tips for being the Best Man for the Job!

1) Plan

Sit down with the Groom and ask him for all the names and numbers of the fellow Stags he wants to share his last night of freedom with. After that he has no more involvement in the organising of the event we all know as THE STAG DO!! Whatever your planning to do be it paint-balling, karting or jetting of to another country, it's best to shop around for the best offer. Stag Do's can be expensive and the last thing you want is a poor turn out for the Groom just because it cost a small fortune. Once you've booed your activities, get a small deposit from people this way it's not all coming out of your pocket and it reduces last minute let downs.

2) Look After Him

Most 'Stag Do' moto's are "anything goes" and while the Groom should go into the night with an open mind, it would be advisable to look after him. Most Grooms are fair game and will do anything for a laugh, but things can get out of hand. You can imagine the look you'll get from the Bride when her husband to be comes home with no hair or eye brow's, and handcuffing him naked to a lamppost could leave him with an embarrassing situation to explain. Just remember it could be your turn to be the Groom one day, so look after him!!

3) The Big Day

It's your job to make sure the Groom is out of bed an getting ready for the big day, as well as looking good yourself. But go easy on the fake tans, you don't want to be the same colour as the Dutch world cup squad now do you?! Just make sure things are running smoothly and on time. Remember the Groom's going to be nervous and being in a relaxed and calm environment will help.

4) At the Church & Reception

Once you have stood at the alter and witnessed the happy couple tie the knot it is time to head outside for the photo's. This can be where the Best Man can help things move along quicker. By helping the Photographer organise the families and friends. Chances are you will know a lot of them by name so you can round people up in the order the photographer would like them. It is also a great way of introducing yourself to those you don't know. In arrival at the reception it is pretty much the same, making sure the Bride and Groom are OK and that family and friends know where they are going. If there isn't a Master of Ceremonies it could be your job to make the announcements.

5) The Speech

This is your chance to get your own back on the Groom. The time where you get to tell funny embarrassing stories about your best friend. If your having trouble with your speech try asking some of the Groom's other friends or family members for material you can use. But remember to keep it clean just in case some people get offended! A good tip to keep in mind is to not make the speech too long, the last thing you want is to have people nodding off or throwing stuff at you shouting "get off". Keep it short and funny (if possible) and you'll be onto a winner.

Good Luck, Rich - Best Man 2010
