The Secret to Happiness

Christine & Edward have been married for 63 years, we decided to catch up with them to find out a bit more about their "Secret to Happiness"...

Where & when did you meet?

Wembley Ice Skating Rink, 1947

How did Edward propose?

Christine: "He didn't, we just talked about it and decided to get married... (laughs)"

How old were you when you got married?

Christine: "19"

Edward: "21"

Where did you get married? What date?

Christine: "We got married on 24th December 1948 at St. Georges Church in Harrow, Middlesex."

How lovely, so you got married on Christmas Eve! Was it extra special because of the time of year?

Christine: "Well I suppose it was but we just wanted to get married as the alternative was the following summer... (laughs again)"

What is your favourite memory of the wedding day?

Christine: "Eddie telling me I looked lovely when I got to the bottom of the aisle."

Edward: "Seeing Chris walking down the aisle towards me."

What did you do for your honeymoon?

Edward: "We didn't have a honeymoon as I was only back for 4 days and then had to return to the forces so we had Christmas together. I returned again in January."

Over the years how have you handled your differences?

Christine: "We've had arguements of course but if you love each other you get over them."

You reached your Diamond Wedding anniversary just over two years ago what did you do to celebrate 60 years together?

Edward: "We had a small family gathering, we didn't want a big party, we did that for our Golden Anniversary."

What would you say your 'Secret to Happiness' it?

Christine: "Tolerance!"

Are there any other pearls of wisdom you would like to share with everyone?

Christine: "Always be there for each other."

Edward: "Be best friends."

Thank you Christine & Edward for an insight into a wonderful marriage, wishing you many more happy years together.
